Mackenzie Announces Preservation of 131st District Farmland
Harrisburg, PA – Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) is pleased to announce that two farms in the 131st District have now been added to Pennsylvania’s list of preserved farmlands.
“Protecting our farmland is essential not just for our economy but for maintaining the very character of our community,” said Mackenzie. “By safeguarding these lands, we’re ensuring that our agricultural heritage and local food supply remain strong for future generations.”
Farms preserved in the 131st District this month are as follows:
•
Behnke, Alan P. and Donna M., Lower Milford Township: 20-acre crop operation.
•
Urffer, Matthew J., and Bales, Jessica J., Lower Milford Township: 43-acre crop operation.
These lands are now permanently safeguarded from residential and commercial development, ensuring that Pennsylvania’s farmers will continue to have access to prime agricultural land to support our families and community for many generations to come.
Pennsylvania continues to lead the nation in preserved farmland. Since 1988, when voters overwhelmingly supported creation of the Farmland Preservation Program, Pennsylvania has protected 6,423 farms and 642,006 acres in 58 counties from future development.
