House Members Request Speaker Call House into Regular Session to Consider Senate Bill 1
1/13/2023
HARRISBURG – In an effort to advance Senate Bill 1, Reps. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) and Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today sent a letter to Speaker of the House Mark Rozzi (D-Berks) making an official request to immediately call the House of Representatives into regular session to consider the legislation. The letter was also signed by 20 other House members.

Senate Bill 1 proposes a constitutional amendment which would create a two-year window for victims of childhood sexual abuse to file lawsuits. If approved by the General Assembly, the question would be put before the voters via a ballot referendum in May. Senate Bill 1 also includes two other proposed constitutional amendments related to voter ID and the disapproval of a governor’s regulations. While all three proposed constitutional amendments are included in Senate Bill 1, when placed on the ballot each constitutional amendment would be listed separately for voters to decide upon.

“As speaker of our chamber, the highest position, you are the one person who can now call us back into regular session so that we can finally address this issue. We are only one step away from completing the legislative part of the constitutional amendment process,” the Mackenzies wrote in the letter.

Gov. Tom Wolf called the House into special session this week to consider the legislation. However, no action has been taken to date.  The letter to Rozzi is attached
