HARRISBURG – Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) announced today that 12 fire and EMS organizations in the 131st Legislative District were awarded nearly $184,000 in funding support through the 2020-21 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program. The grant amounts range from $8,993 to $38,085.

Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training and education, recruitment and retention, or debt reduction. This year, funds may also be used to supplement operational expenses incurred by the lack of fundraising opportunities resulting from the pandemic.

“Our volunteer fire departments and emergency services organizations have suffered greatly due to the pandemic,” said Mackenzie. “These men and women constantly put their lives on the line and make sacrifices to ensure the safety of our communities. I am very pleased to see that they are receiving this funding as it will assist with purchasing upgraded equipment and receiving the latest education and training, as well as supplementing expenses from the lack of fundraising opportunities.”

Following is a list of fire and EMS organizations in the 131st Legislative District that received grants:

• Citizens Fire Company of Upper Milford.
• Coopersburg Fire Company No. 1.
• Emmaus Borough Ambulance Corporation.
• Emmaus Fire Department.
• Lower Milford Township Fire Company 1.
• Upper Milford Western District Fire Company.

• East Greenville Fire Company No. 1.
• Pennsburg Fire Company No. 1.
• Red Hill Fire Company.
• Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance Association.

All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. The ongoing funding program was created by the Legislature.
