Mackenzie: We Must Refrain from Overspending Taxpayer Dollars

February 8, 2022

HARRISBURG – Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) provided the following statement in regard to the governor’s proposed spending plan:

“Since being elected into office one of my main priorities is to curb any wasteful spending that may occur here in the Commonwealth,” said Mackenzie. “Today’s spending plan put forward by the governor is a prime example of some of the highest and unnecessary spending our Commonwealth could face.

“With a price tag of $43.7 billion, the administration is seeking to increase our overall spending by 16.6% ($6.2 billion) which equates to $17 million more per day. Not to mention he’s also looking to squander the remaining $2 billion in federal American Rescue Plan dollars. Inflating the funding that we provide now will most likely lead to high deficits within our Commonwealth in the coming fiscal years. His current proposal will be detrimental not only for our state but for the Pennsylvania taxpayers who entrust us with their hard-earned money.

“It is essential that we refrain from overspending taxpayer dollars, increase contributions to our state reserves, and provide assistance to essential state programs and services. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure Pennsylvania will see a beneficial and financially sound budget this year.”
