Stephens, Pennycuick, Hennessey and Mackenzie Announce Funding for New Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center in Montco

November 3, 2022

HARRISBURG – Montgomery County lawmakers – Reps. Todd Stephens (R-North Wales), Tracy Pennycuick (R-Gilbertsville), Tim Hennessey (R-Pottstown) and Milou Mackenzie (R-Red Hill) – joined forces to advocate for funding for the construction of a new Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center in Montgomery County. This week it was announced that Mission Kids was selected to receive $5.75 million under the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center’s plans to build a state-of-the-art child advocacy and training center in Montgomery County. This new facility—which will include an on-site medical suite, a trauma therapy center, a collaborative workspace for law enforcement and child protective services, and a cutting-edge training facility—will provide immense value for children, families, and child-serving professionals in Montgomery County and across the region.

Upon learning of the grant award, the lawmakers issued the following statement:

“Child abuse is a horrible and devasting trauma for a child to experience and cope with. The opportunity to have a resource like the proposed facility by Mission Kids is something each of us whole heartedly support. Their comprehensive services that not only see to the child’s welfare but work with law enforcement to catch and stop the abuser from harming more children is essential. Child advocacy centers are a breakthrough model of treatment. Unfortunately, they also require a significant amount of start-up and operating costs, which this grant will help cover. There is no greater fight than for the safety and well-being of our children. We all look forward to having this new facility up and running in the county.”

Since opening in 2009, Mission Kids has become a vital community resource, providing multidisciplinary services for more than 6,000 victims of abuse and their families, as well as offering trainings for 40,000 additional community members.

The new facility will make Montgomery County a national leader in the fight against child abuse and will provide a significant return on investment by bringing child protection professionals from across the country to the region.
