HARRISBURG – Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Northampton/Montgomery) attended a joint session of the General Assembly today to hear Gov. Josh Shapiro outline his budget proposal for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
She issued the following statement in response to the $45.8 billion spending plan:
“I am hopeful that Gov. Shapiro will exercise wisdom in using the money that the hardworking taxpayers of Pennsylvania have sent to Harrisburg.”
“Now is not the time for excessive spending, when so many Pennsylvanians are struggling to keep their heads above water with all of the inflation and rising energy costs they are facing.”
“My sincerest desire is that the lives of all Pennsylvanians will improve in the months and years ahead.”
Mackenzie noted that the governor’s address is just the beginning of the annual budget process. The House Appropriations Committee will conduct a series of hearings starting Monday, March 20, to examine the details of the governor’s plan and how state departments and agencies are spending their funding.
